    Churchill's hat

Does the two finger salute mean “Churchill has two hats”?

Prime Minister Winston Churchill visited the City of Liverpool on 25th April 1941,

Mr Churchill said “I need a hat to wave Victory to the people of Liverpool”. His secretary said “where is the one you had this morning.” He replied I left it in the Board Room at Martins Bank ,” “How many hats do you have Churchill was then asked,” he replied with a hand gesture and then said “I had two but I left one in Martins Bank”. “Where is it now” Churchill was then asked, his reply was “who knows, but one thing I do know is my Homburg was the only thing that did not get bombed during the war.

Churchill looked around and then said “Someone lend me a hat, any hat so I can wave it to the people”.
Churchill was then handed a service hat by someone within his entourage.

Mr Churchill’s hat stayed where he left it, on the hat stand inside the Board Room at Martins Bank Building Water Street, Liverpool until Barclays Bank bought out Martins Bank. Then one of the staff possibly a lift boy, who had emerged from Martins to Barclays, demoted the hat to a cupboard draw within the board room where it stayed until the late 1980’s when a new Bank Director ordered all the cupboards to be cleared and all the contents thrown out.
Knowing the story of the hat, a staff member decided to keep the hat instead of throwing it out. Now in the late 1990s I was sold the hat with the story. How true the story is …….. Who knows? I like this story; in fact I love the story. Why should I not believe this Liverpool cracking story?

Part of the Churchill stoey has been verified by an old employe.

As I stated I believe the story.
